Got out for a nice ride tonight. Trails seem to be dry so that is cool. I did however find my first tick of the season. So yeah, start checking for the little evil bastards. I know at least three people who have had Lymes over the last three seasons so it is for real.

I was reading Charile Farrows blog yesterday about his frantic ride to find some lost sunglassed and had to laugh (http://cpfarrow.blogspot.com/). Certainly there are many TYPES of rides that can develope. Some pretty chill, some exciting and some are really just a pain in the ass. Later in the day I hopped on the road bike after a stressful afternoon on the phone. A ride was needed and a ride was what was going to happen. As I pedaled out of the driveway I had this nagging feeling that I had forgotten something. I went through a mental check list as to my pump, tube, Gu, money, music etc. I wanted to go for the ride that could just keep going if I felt good, who knows the sky is the limit right?
About 2.5 hours later I was at an intersection and I had the ability to either add on another five miles or maybe just jet home. For some reason I decided to look at the watch and see what the actual time of the day was. HMMM 4.45pm. OH shit! I have to be at the County Historical Society Board Meeting at 5pm! So yeah, I was about to have the, I am twenty minutes from home, but have to be there in 10 ride. After a solid ride on top of it. I think that these rides would be beneficial if they were not so stressful. Especially when it pulls you out of the nice mindset that you were having before. Most things I would just shrug my shoulders and say, no worries. But being on the board of directors with other people who are serious about it means that you had better go for it! Ughgh, my old man legs and barrell of a belly were hard to stoke but I made it, only about five minutes late for the meeting. Anway, Charlie. Add that to the list of ride archetypes......maybe in there with the Tuesday night slaughter rides that go on around the country like clockwork.

Now is your chance to get political. If you want to put your voice with many others and keep ATV's out of the Cloquet State Forest you can do it now. Go to http://friendscvsf.org/page16.html
DO IT NOW ask for LIMITED DESIGNATED USE
A friend of mine here in Duluth found this note and posted it to http://www.foundmagazine.com/comments/846
You should check it out it is classic. I have to say, Starfire is the king of Duluth pop culure in my opinion and this is the crowning moment!

It was a long tough week on the road. I lost an injector on the truck and had to spend more than a pretty penny to get it fixed. I did hit a ton of dealers though and was happy to see all the smiling faces that I associated with summer. The weather was much nicer down south this time of year and I was able to get in some paddles and even a bit of dry singletrack as well.

I am on on the road doing the clinic tour this week. While on the road I spoke with some buddies who are planning a two week BWCA trip in mid May. They are super enthusiastic and I love every minute of it. Yesterday however they were doing some route planning and ran into this photo, dated 4/17. Three weeks and counting! They are all hoping for warm weather and rain up there so they have an ice free route to paddle on.

My Wife Margaret has been taking classes in Thai Body Work. Oh yeah. Did a 2 hour ride yesterday on some soft gravel roads, came home and had a one hour Thai Massage. I am shocked at how far it can bring you back from the dead. It is way more physical and deep than the classic massage, damn painful some times but it gets much deeper into joints and major muscle masses. Recommended for over 25 year old aerobic athletes who have decided to die rather than slow down.......

Low was on NPR Live last night so I decided to check it out.
The concert was great, but I think I was even more impressed by the idea. It reminded me of sitting around the old radio listening to "The Shadow". It was fun to hear a concert that I could have in no way attended and hear it live for free. I was working on getting my clinics ready for the road and emailing back and forth with Philip Curry at Astral and we were listening and talking about the music at the same time. A cool experience, right there in my barn....
